Notes for Eliza Emily Kegg
Signed her name "Emily Hessom" in her sons' admission papers to the orphanage after husband Thomas was drowned at sea.

I think I've figured out what Emily did next, after George died tragically.

In 1884, she married William Ramsden (there's a marriage for Eliza Emily Hessom with GRO Ref 1884 Sep W. Derby 8b 816, which I will order).

We can then find them in the 1891 census at 52 Spencer Street, Everton:

William Ramsden, 43, a Mariner, b. Liverpool.
Emily Ramsden, 43, b. Liverpool.
Emily H. Ramsden, dau, 11, Scholar, b. Birkenhead.
Alfred H. Ramsden, son, 16, Fishmonger's assistant, b. Birkenhead.
Alice Hay, 44, boarder, Stewardess, b. Liverpool.

Emily Ramsden is surely (Eliza) Emily Hessom nee Kegg.
The initial H in the children's names surely stands for Hessom.
The boarder, Alice, is presumably known to Emily through their shared profession.
The only thing that doesn't match is Emily's age, but we can forgive her
5 years given her desperate circumstances.

This also explains how Emily Thomasina and Alfred James both moved north across the Mersey.
