Notes for Thomas Hessom
His birth certificate is unusual in that it shows a time of birth. Could it be a multiple birth? There are no other Hessoms in the complete Birth Indexes for West Derby in Jul-Sep quarter, 1944, nor are there any Hessom deaths registered in Lancashire in that quarter.

Robert Wood, the baker Thomas was apprenticed to, also appears as a baker in Cable St, Liverpool, in the 1841 census.

From Keith Birmingham:

[Thomas Hessom] was drowned in Shanghai off the ship SS Stentor 19 June 1879. This meant that some of the boys were put in the Seamans Orphanage in Liverpool. Their mother appears to have got a job as a Stewardess to support them. I managed to access to their archives some years ago and found a few documents you may like. It was in the Orphanage that he first came across my grandmother!
