Notes for Christopher Gill
JAP says "Elizabeth Ann's father had also been widowed young, and remarried. Because his daughter Elizabeth Ann did not like her stepmother, she was sent to a boarding school, Cowan Bridge School, set on the edge of the moore. It was a cold and comfortless place. It had a reputation for strict discipline. It is the school described by Charlotte Bronte in Jane Eyre. The author called it Lowood. This school later became known as Casterton School. It had a good reputation. The building is now a private home."
