Sounds like the same John Patrick Godkin who I have. He married my Grandfather's sister Harriet Cecilia Florence Smith. She was born in Clerkenwell, London, 1868 and baptized in Deerhurst, Gloucestershire 1871

Harriet was christened April 16 1871 at Deerhurst, Gloucestershire, with her brother, my grandfather, Sydney Walter Horatio Smith and sister, Agnes. Their parents were James Jeremiah Smith and Susannah Boulton. This family moved around quite a bit.
I have seen the index for Harriet and John Godkin's marriage, but I have not sent for it.
They were married in the June quarter 1893 St. Olave, Southwark. Volume 1 D page 579
Harriet had other siblings..........Archibald 1875 Ada about 1875 Louise 1877 Annie 1880 These children were all born in Gloucestershire.
If you want any more info on the Smith's ..........let me know, as I have a fair amount.
