John Jnr. was born 5 months after his parents immigration and it seems that his father went to work at Clifton Station immediately after their arrival. So, although John's birth certificate states his birth place as Tenterfield, it is more likely he was born at Clifton Station as was his next younger brother. His birth was not registered until 5 weeks later which lends weight to the theory that his parents were not residents of Tenterfield but rather living on one of the outlaying properties.
Very little is known about John Jnr. On his marriage certificate he stated he was a labourer of Bryans Gap. Presumably he lived with his family until then.
His first child was born near Warwick, however, his wife's parents lived there and she may have gone home to Mum for the birth of the child. Their later 3 children were all born in NSW. (dates and places to be determined)
The impression that has been handed down through the family is that he was a n'er-do-well, who drank heavily and mistreated his wife.
John and Kate separated sometime between 1899, after the brith of their youngest child, and 1904. His death certificate sates he lived in NSW for 43 years before moving to Queensland. The would put the time of the collapse of the marriage about 1903
