20 Jul 2007: Found Harrison/Fearns Family Tree on the web.
http://www.geocities.com/nortonvillage/surnames.htmThis gives
Born: 29 JAN 1786 at: Castle Bolton
Married: 7 FEB 1817 at: Castle Bolton
Died: SEP 1859 at: Castle Bolton
Father:James RUSSELL
Mother:Elizabeth HORN
Spouse: Ann Tomlin
I'm borrowing information about the pedigree of James Russell 1786-1859 from this. Everything earlier should be regarded as tentative and in need of confirmation.
5 Sep 2007:
http://www.redmire.net/family also gives 29 Jan 1786 for the birthdate, and provides also baptism dates. Seems very well researched.

JAP: "James Russell was born on 23 January 1786. He married Ann Tomlin at Castle Bolton in December 1810. The names and births of their eight children are printed in the old Wesley New Testament. Their third child, a boy, was born on 24 December 1821. He, too, was named James. This boy, like his ancestors, apparently stayed in Castle Bolton all his life. His son was born 21 October 1849. He was to be baptized James." This is copied, essentially verbatim, from some notes written by Jennie Openshaw.
I don't believe this. Everything (Castle Bolton census records and certificate of marriage of James Russell and Elizabeth Ann Gill) points to John, not James, being the father of James Russell (1849). It would also seem more likely that the older son would be called James, and the second son John.
Also, other sources give 7 Feb 1817 for the date of the marriage between James and Ann Tomlin, citing the Registers of Bolton-cum-Redmire. This seems far more likely than the 1810 date, when James would have been only 14.
