I started researching in 1997 ... by trawling through microfiche belonging to the Church of Latterday Saints ... available at the library. From that I traced Richard (b.1770) and his marriage to Mary Mason in Farnworth (Near Widnes) in 1790. I have a copy of the entry in the parish register ... I traced his brother's birth in the same way.
For ten years I have been trying to get further back than 1790 but I just cannot discover where Richard came from, there were no other Gadds in the NW at that time, other than in Northenden Nr Manchester. I have been in contact with a couple of people there but have drawn a blank.
